Enable Full Regulatory Compliance

Strict regulations? We’ve got your back. Manta provides a complete overview of regulated data your organization is processing so you will meet your regulatory requirements and avoid hefty penalties for non-compliance.

Your Data Management & Governance Strategies Rely on Healthy Data

Compliance can be a pain if your data is inaccurate, incomplete, or missing. But, accuracy is critical in ensuring protection against non-compliance events, of which a single event can cost organizations an average of $4 million in revenue (a 45% global increase since 2011).

You need an immediate, complete, and comprehensive overview of all your data flows, sources, transformations, and dependencies to take control of your data assets.

Manta can help you increase trust in your data, ensure accurate reporting, see a clear overview of how crucial calculations were derived, and improve your data governance framework to reinforce your overall data management strategy – all at an enterprise-wide level.

How Manta Helps

Report developers, data scientists, and data citizens need data they can trust for accurate, timely, and confident decision-making. But in today’s complex data environment, there are dispersed servers, infrastructure, and data catalogs, resulting in disparate sources of data and countless data dependencies. You need a complete overview of all your data sources to see how data moves through your organization. No matter your regulatory compliance needs, Manta can help.

FAQs

Does Manta follow the DAMA data governance framework?

Yes, Manta is compliant with the DAMA-DMBOK Functional Framework. The Data Management Association (DAMA) has published a framework to help organizations stay secure and compliant. The body of knowledge is always growing, but Manta will not affect your ability to adhere to the guidelines.

Manta focuses on data lineage, which is derived from metadata. The data within the connected resources is left untouched during a scan.

No, Manta does not affect your database or its performance in any way. Because Manta extracts only metadata, it will not affect the performance of your applications or database.

Data lineage goes beyond this historical record of data to look at the how and possible impacts of data movements and dependencies. Data lineage provides a full overview of how your data flows throughout the systems of your environment via a detailed map of all direct and indirect dependencies between data entities within the environment. This gives you a greater understanding of the source, structure, and evolution of your data.

Data governance, at its core, is establishing trust in data - the quality and sources of data, the integrity and the use of data, and the security of data during the lifecycle of data within the enterprise. Data lineage plays an important role in your data governance framework and overall data management strategy by providing visibility into how data flows throughout your environment as well as transparency in the sourcing, structure, and evolution of your data.

Metadata management is the process of cataloging, profiling, and managing data about data. As your data flows throughout your enterprise system (database operations, metadata management, data warehousing, etc. ), data governance provides a framework of rules and policies that ensure data quality, integrity, and security.  providing a framework of rules and policies to ensure the quality, integrity, and security of your data as it flows throughout the enterprise system.

Data systems today consist of two equally important parts: the data itself and the system component responsible for data storage, processing, and transformations.

Active tags are color-coded attributes that are fully customizable and enable you to highlight information relevant to you in the context of the pipeline. With active tags, you can mark specific characteristics in the lineage diagram and repository tree (like data quality or data privacy issues). Additionally, Manta offers default active tags that are automatically flagged for your attention. These tags include significant transformations as well as foreign keys and primary keys.

Your data is not modified by Manta’s data lineage. Manta doesn’t have access to any of the actual data. Your disparate data sources such as databases, data warehouses, ETL tools, and business intelligence tools can be connected to Manta.

Once those connections are established, we parse through the physical code to read metadata only.

Manta does not touch the actual data at all and won’t manipulate or modify any of it.

Manta does not affect your database or its performance in any way.

  1. Is data lineage intrusive or of low impact to my current system?

MANTA’s lineage is not intrusive, and MANTA extractions only have a low impact on the source system’s resources. Since only metadata is extracted from the system, the load placed on the machines is kept to a minimum.

By connecting databases, ETL tools, reporting tools, and other types of source technologies to data lineage scanners, you can track how and where data flows and transforms, in addition to the originating source, allowing full visibility across even the most complex data pipelines and complete control over them.

Does Manta have its own database scanners?

Yes, all of Manta’s scanners were developed in-house. We offer 50+ native scanners for databases, ETL tools, reporting and analytics software, modeling tools, and programming languages to ensure the most accurate and up-to-date lineage visualization.

Can Manta merge its scanners with our existing scanners?

Yes, Manta allows you to ingest the metadata you already have through OpenManta API.

Can Manta scanners be customized?

Manta provides 50+ OOTB scanners that are designed to handle lineage from the respective technologies. These scanners should not require any customizations as they are designed for a specific technology. However, all our scanners provide configuration options so they can be adjusted for a particular use. This includes the ability to handle placeholder and variable replacements and/or the specification of lineage for custom components in ETL tools.

Another option that Manta provides is the annotated script scanner that extracts lineage information from technologies not supported by Manta’s native scanners when additional annotations denoting lineage information are provided in the form of comments in the scripts.

Does Manta have scanners for database technologies, ETL technologies, and reporting tools and technologies?

Yes, Manta has 50+ OOTB scanners for databases, ETL tools, reporting and analysis software, modeling tools, and programming languages.

Manta receives a significant upgrade every quarter. During these major releases, we roll out new features, product improvements, and bug fixes that may be interesting to end-users. As we receive feedback from our customers, we work to improve our lineage capabilities. Releases can include scanner updates, enhancements to Manta’s infrastructure (like visualization and rendering performance), database migrations, and more.

We strive to provide effortless maintenance of the product and a user-friendly administration interface. See our latest releases and updates in our newsroom.

Yes, Manta allows you to ingest the metadata you already have through OpenManta  API. We have designed Open Manta to address those needs and equip users with a solution that allows them to build their own metadata ingestion process for Manta Flow and take advantage of the Manta Flow platform without a formal scanner.
